The End of the World

by Bryant Muldrew

Due to the common acceptance of superstitions, many believe that the world will end this month. The end of the world has been foretold by every self-proclaimed prophet, astrologer, and a host of others mystics. The unfortunate reality is that many of people who subscribe to these fortunetellers call themselves Christians.

What does the bible have to say about the end of the world?

Jesus Said

In Matthew chapter 24, the disciples of Jesus approached Him and ask this question: “Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” (Matt 24:3 KJV)

For the Christian who believes in Jesus, here’s the only source you should be looking to when wanting to know what will happen at the end.

Jesus responds to His disciples with a list of things that are to take place.

  1. Religious deception – verse 5
  2. Wars and rumors of wars – verse 6
  3. Famine, pestilences, and earthquakes in different places – verse 7
  4. Religious persecution – verse 9
  5. The  loss of  brotherly love – verse 10
  6. More religious deception – verse 11
  7. Lawlessness will abound, love will wax cold – verse 12
  8. The gospel preached to all of the world – verse 14
  9. The abomination of desolation – verse 15
  10. Great Tribulation – verse 21
  11. More religious deception – verses 24-26
  12. Sun darkened, moon gives no light – verse 29
  13. The sign of Jesus in the clouds – verse 30
  14. The gathering of the very elect – verse 31

Be sure to read all of these verses then note that Jesus goes on to say, “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” (Matt 24:34 KJV) So after giving a list of things that will happen, Jesus assures the disciples that this generation will not pass until all of these things are fulfilled.

Notice there are still six points in that list that have not come to pass yet. This would mean that the world will not end this December because of facts we know from the bible. For example we know that the Great Tribulation is prophesied to take place for 3 ½ years.

“And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.” (Rev 12:14 KJV)

“And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.” (Dan 12:11 KJV)

“And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth” (Rev 11:3 KJV)

“And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.” (Dan. 12:7 KJV)

These verses are referring to (though some include time slightly longer than 3 1/2 years) the same time frame of existence. Some would like to believe that this event is already taking place; however, they are forgetting details about the Great Tribulation that prove that it has not occurred. For example, the captivity of Ephraim, Mannesah, and Judah has not happened. The Book of Jeremiah talks about this. This means the Great Tribulation has not happened!!!

“Thus speaketh the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book. For, lo, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the Lord: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.” (Jer. 30:2-3 KJV)

Notice this is to be written in a book because it was for the future. God’s exact words are, “I will bring,” suggesting the future. Lastly, God says He will bring Israel and Judah into captivity. The original nation of Israel was broken into these two nation. Israel was already in captivity at this point which means this is for the future. That future is approaching!!!

Human civilization is obviously reaching the end stage, but Christians have to be careful when listening to prophetic hearsay. The bible is the source for prophecy, not a Mayan calendar or the interpreter of that calendar.

Remember that Jesus says, But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” (Matt 24:36 KJV)
