The Seed

As you begin to study the Bible more, you begin to see how God’s actions are deliberate and well planned. In fact, the Bible tells us that certain things were ordained from the foundation of the world. Did you know that the work of Christ was ordained at the beginning of the world? Maybe you have heard of this fact, but do you know what it has to do with the gospel?

God in His infinite wisdom established a plan before the foundation of the world to reconcile mankind to Himself in case man went astray.

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.” (1 Pet. 1:18-20)

The apostle Peter declares to us that God foreordained the sacrifice of Jesus Christ before the foundation of the world. This should inspire us all to show deep gratitude towards God for His infinite mercy and foresight. In addition, we should strive to understand what God is doing and why His goal is so important that He would foreordain a sacrifice for us.

The book of Hebrews puts it this way: “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” (Heb. 4:2-3)

Again, we can see that the gospel is intimately associated with the plan God has put in motion before the world began. In fact, if you read the previous verses carefully, you can see the faithfulness of God. His purpose for man is considered finish since the beginning because God will accomplish His purpose. Compare 1 Pet. 1:18-20 and Heb. 4:2-3 with Rev. 13:8. This verse shows us that the Lamb of God [Jesus Christ (John 1:29)] has been considered slain since the foundation of the world.

The Seed That Will Bruise Satan’s Head

In studying this topic, we must examine the foundation of the world. This means we must study the history recorded for us in the book of Genesis. In Genesis, we read how God established the world and gave a man authority over the creation (Gen 1:26). Unfortunately, the first man Adam rebelled against God, making it necessary for God to put His plan in motion. God Himself prophesies of the coming of Jesus Christ in Genesis 3 when addressing Satan.

“And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Gen. 3:14-15)

Satan through the serpent caused mankind to engage in open rebellion against God just as he did, but God had a plan in place. God had planned to send Jesus Christ to be a sacrifice for sin, an example of godly character, and as a prophet. (These topics will be address thoroughly in other Bible studies.) Jesus Christ’s sinless life qualified Him to remove satan from ruling this earth by destroying satan’s works. (1 John 3:8-9).

In Thy Seed Shall All the Nations of the Earth Be Blessed

This prophecy is later amplified by God when He calls and blesses Abram who is renamed Abraham. After Abraham proved his faith through being prepared to sacrifice Isaac his only son, God blessed Abraham. This blessing can be read in Gen. 22:15-18. God tells Abraham, “in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.” This was a promise God made to Abraham that cannot be broken. God had chosen Abraham’s lineage to give rise to the seed prophesied to come in Gen. 3:15.

Confirmation that Jesus Christ is that seed can be found in the book of Galatians. Notice the following verse: “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, and to seeds, as of many; but as of one, and to thy seed, which is Christ.” (Gal. 3:16)

Besides the writing of Paul, we can find additional proof in the history of Israel. The promise God made could not have referred to the Israelites. The history of Israel is filled with idolatry and spiritual adultery. Read Ezekiel 23 for an overview of that history. This chapter describes how Israel lusted after the gods of the nations around them. How could the world be blessed in a group of people who went after pagan gods instead the only living God? The only seed that came out of the lineage of Abraham that is a blessing to the all nation is the Lord Jesus Christ!!!

The Seed to Become King

So how will Abraham’s seed (Jesus Christ) be a blessing to all nations on the earth? Many may think the answer to this question is obvious; however, it is rare to hear someone teach on subject fully. Indeed, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is a blessing to the world but it only a piece of a larger agenda being work out by God. Read the following verses carefully:

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isa. 9:6-7).

Yes, a seed was born and given to us, but many ignore what He was sent for. Notice the verse tells us there will be a government on his shoulders. This government shall be established on the throne of David, a descendant of Abraham. There will be peace without end. Righteous judgment and justice will continue in this kingdom forever!!! What a blessing it will be to this world to have a righteous government established and led by the Son of God Jesus Christ!!! Abraham’s seed is to become king over the whole earth and establish what mankind has attempted for 6000 years.

If this seems irrational to you, read what Jesus said when He was on trial in John 18:37. Jesus tells Pilate that He was born to be king and that is why He came into the world. Believe what Jesus said! Believe what is written in the word of God! Know that there is a kingdom coming that will be establish on the shoulders of Jesus Christ that will bless the world with joy, peace, and justice! This is the most forgotten aspect of the gospel that should be preached unto all nations!!!

“Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.” (Jer. 31:12-13)
